Stem Cell Research Center of Institute of Blood Transfusion, CAMS/PUMC, is a newly established research center. The academic leader of the center is Dr. Ma Feng, a frontier stem cell researcher being engaged in basic and clinical research on hematopoietic stem cells, hemotopoiesis and pathogenesis of blood diseases for a long time. In recent years, he has been focusing on the mechanism controlling human embryonic stem cells (hESC) / induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC) to develop into functionally mature hematopoietic cells, and exploring the possibility of their clinical applications. He has taken the lead in inducing hESC efficiently to functional mature red blood cells. Dr. Ma Feng is now the "Scholar of PUMC" Distinguished Professor of CAMS.
    Under the leadership of Dr. Ma Feng, Stem Cell Research Center will mainly aim at uncovering the unknown mysteries in the initial establishment of human normal and diseased hematopoiesis. Besides, we will also search for new approaches towards therapeutical utilization of hESC/hiPSC-derived stem cells in future clinical applications.
