Blood transfusion instrumentation research and development center is the first national laboratory to focus on materials and instruments for blood transfusion. The developed poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) blood bags are currently used all over China. “Plastic blood bags” were awarded National Science Prize in 1978, “Plastic multiple blood bags” were granted the third prize of Sichuan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award in 1990, “New plastic multiple blood bags for platelet storage” were listed among the State Porch Plan programs, and two China invention patents were granted.

    Since 1992 under the support of the Key Sci-Tech Research Program Fund of Sichuan Provincial Science Committee, this center took the lead in developing the application of leukocyte reduction filter and related material in blood transfusion, which passed the appraisal of achievements in August 1995 and became the beginning of industrialization of materials and instruments for blood transfusion.

    Research interests include: 1. Novel materials and related principles for blood purification, exchanging, separation, filtration, etc., quality standardization and evaluation methods; 2. new technology and instruments for blood collection, separation and storage, interaction of blood components, and product standardization.
